It is also used by patients who require long-term oxygen use. Nosal cannula delivers oxygen concentrations of about 24-44 percent.
The simple face mask
This is designed and utilized for delivering a high oxygen concentration of about 40-60 percent. This mask fits entirely over the mouth and nose with a special metal piece that conforms to the nose’s shape. It is also equipped with a special elastic strap which straps around your head thus helping to keep the mask in place.
The source of oxygen is attached to the mask. It has exhalation ports for expelling carbon dioxide. This cover hinders some freedom thus making the patient complain of a claustrophobic feeling.
The non-breather and partial masks are classified as reservoir masks. These are masks used in delivering oxygen in very high concentrations especially for people suffering from serious respiratory conditions. The partial masks deliver 70-90 concentration of oxygen whereas the non-breather delivers above 90 percent. Both of masks are attached to a reservoir bag.
